Kursbeschreibung

Our Level II Eddy Current course addresses the theory and principles related to general surface scanning techniques including emphasis on evaluation of test results.  In this course, it covers general aerospace applications.

The course and training manual are provided with graphics from multiple sources with demonstrations using test systems provided by several manuafacturers.

This course is based on the body of knowledge as defined in ANSI / ASNT CP-105.  The training also provides detailed information and guidance on how to perform a wide range of inspection applications.  Other key applications include:

  • near surface cracking of nonferritic alloys
  • conductivity measurement
  • second-layer corrosion
  • near surface flaw detection in ferritic welds- near surface cracking in ferritic alloys
  • bolt hole testing
  • cracks under fasteners / ring probe
  • cracks under fasteners / sliding probe
  • near surface cracking in ferritic alloys

This course meets the recommendations for training as described in SNT-TC-1A.

NOTE: There is a course specific manual provided at beginning of the course. Theuse of this manual in addition to self-study is strongly encouraged and will add to the overall training benefit and time to be credited. It will also better prepare the student for the practical lab/’hands-on” session. It is recommended that the student a log of the self-study time. It is also recommended that the applicable Level III be involved and confirm that the reading and self-study assignments have been completed. This should become a part of the student’s training records which may be used in conjunction with subsequent certifications.

About the Instructor: Jim Cox

Jim provides training, consulting, and Level III services in Electromagnetics Testing (ET) to a wide range of customers in multiple market sectors.

He was introduced to NDT in 1975 when he received NDI training at Chanute AFB.  Upon departure from the Air Force he worked for both Battelle Memorial Institute in Columbus, Ohio and then the Electrical Power Research Institute in Charlotte, NC designing, investigating and implementing new ET systems and techniques.  He became an ASNT Level III in ET in 1984.  After helping to develop a new training program for EPRI leading to what is today the Qualified Data Analysis Program (QDA) he became the Training Manager and Principle Level III for Zetec, Inc.  He held that position for nineteen years prior to forming his own company.

He was the Chair of the Electromagnetics Committee for ASNT from 2001 to 2007 and has assisted ASNT and independent publishers multiple times by providing technical oversight and review of ET training materials.

Since 2007 he has specialized in designing and delivering on site eddy current and remote field training courses for the heat exchanger tubing inspection market including the qualification of data analysts.
