Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT): Penetrant Testing Level I/II

This three day course (24 Hr) combines Level 1 and Level 2 courses and explores theory involved with liquid penetrant inspection, equipment used, code and procedural development and hands-on demonstration of using penetrant inspections. This course meets or exceeds requirements of SNT-TC-1A.

Waygate Technologies’ Liquid Penetrant Testing Level 1 course teaches the fundamentals of liquid penetrant testing. Students will learn the principles of the technology and basic operation of equipment associated with liquid penetrant testing. The course includes hands-on training and inspection of test parts with known defects. The basic concepts covered are: 

• Principles of liquid penetrant testing,
• Liquid penetrant processes for both types and all four methods,
• Inspection of materials
• Liquid penetrant testing equipment and light meters
• Types of discontinuities, and
• Interpretation of indications. 

The Level 1 course is 8 hours in length.

Waygate Technologies’ Liquid Penetrant Testing Level 2 course teaches advanced concepts and principles of liquid penetrant testing. Students will build on their level I knowledge and gain more detailed knowledge of principles of the technology. The course includes hands-on training and inspection of test parts with known defects. The basic concepts covered are: 

• Selection of appropriate penetrant testing methods
• Inspection and evaluation techniques of indications,
• Inspection procedures and standards, and
• Quality control of equipment and processes. 

The Level 2 course is 16 hours in length. Successful completion of a Liquid Penetrant Testing Level 1 class is a prerequisite for this course.
